There Used to be An Other

Ceramic Installation - Videodance Performance in collaboration with Pascal Caron.

Ceramics, Dual video projection, 25min in loop. Dimensions Variable.

The exhibition brings together the different artistic practices of the artists Melita Couta and Pascal Caron, which are sculpture and ceramic making with dance and performance. Objects, matter and movement coexist on screen and in space. “We feel a mysterious attachment for the people that were roaming the Earth long ago, in prehistoric times, and for so long a period of time that our minds just can't grasp the dimensions of their life. How to reach this radically other? Ceramic making is one of the earliest human three-dimensional artistic activities. In any dance, something survives that is older than the dancer. Together, ceramic and dance create images where “our” world is suspended. They bear witness to another way of being in the world. In the film, the performer enters a state of fascination, just as ceramics is a fascination of the earth. The ceramic artist casts a spell on matter. The clay discovers its kinship with the stone, with the fire, with the hand, with the hollow; the body, its kinship with the clay.”
